Eugene Southtowne Rotary has the exciting opportunity of helping Head Start of Lane County plan and carry out their Family Safety Night for their parents and children. This event is designed to help children become aware of safety precautions and what to do should they be in a dangerous situation. There will be children and parents from 3 different sites involved (possibly over 300 children and parents) at the event!

Family Safety Night will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, from 5:00-7:00 PM, at Whitaker Head Start, 21 N. Grand in Eugene, Oregon.

Our Duties at Family Safety Night

As Rotary members, our responsibility will be to work with Head Start to organize a series of booths that present safety issues in a fun, interactive way. Thanks to our awesome volunteers, we have assembled great teams in charge of individual tasks and booths. These booths will include musical chairs using smoke detector sounds to signal finding a chair, talking about ways out of a house in the event of an emergency, etc. We will also have bike safety, with bikes and helmets as prizes.

Other games and events include:

  • Safety Bingo
  • Obstacle Courses
  • Police Car
  • Pizza Dinner

Thank you to David Lawlor for helping with organizing community contributions to the event, Doug who has offered a police car, and grant money to help with costs! Thank you to Sanipac for sponsoring this event, and thank you to all members that our volunteering their time.

See you in February!
