Downtown Languages

downtown languagesA high proportion of students and parents from the Fairfield and Bethel Head Start programs speak Spanish as their native language. English skills for both students and parents are important for success at school and work. Downtown Languages offers specialized language classes to people with emerging language skills, improving communication in our community, and building and strengthening multicultural connections in Lane County. Access, affordability, compassionate and practical language education for all–these are the tenets of Downtown Languages (DTL) and the vision of the founders.

Southtowners support Downtown Languages by assisting with a variety of activities for the family literacy program. Some members help students with homework, some read stories, some do special activities of their own, e.g. directing leather projects. The possibilities are endless, so if you have something you’d like to share with the students and/or their parents, there’s probably a way that can happen. There are also some special events that we assist with, e.g. Day of the Dead celebration, graduation, and the annual picnic.

Contact Trent Wagner for more information on how to get involved.
