Rotary district 5110, comprises 73 clubs with over 4,000 members. The district is located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States–specifically central and southern Oregon, and the very north of California. Bordered by the Rocky Mountains on the east, and the Pacific Ocean on the west, the District is a diverse geographic region. Due to plentiful rainfall and mild summers, the area has some of North America’s most lush and extensive forests, which are widely populated with Douglas fir trees and contains specimens of the tallest trees on earth, the redwoods. To the east, high plateaus provide a more arid climate.
The most populated areas are Eugene (about 171K), Bend (about 95K), and Medford (about 75K) with the rest of the District composed of smaller cities and rural towns. The economy is mainly based on agriculture, timber, technology, and tourism. Indigenous peoples have occupied the area for millennia with the first white settlement established in 1811. Sylvia
Sylvia, a Ugandan of distinguished heritage, now resides in the United States with her husband and their four children. Sylvia is the current president of the Southtowne Eugene Rotary Club for the 2025 – 2026 term. Sylvia embraces the opportunity to live out the principle of “Service Above Self”. Through rotary, Sylvia has discovered opportunities like the Rotary Friendship Exchange Program. She passionately believes in a Rotary’s ability to bridge communities, transform lives, and create lasting peace. Sylvia’s life mission is to empower individuals, celebrate diversity, and inspire collective actions that shape a better world for generations to come.
