Bruce Shaw, 2016-17

Southtowne Rotary President

D. (Darrell) Bruce Shaw was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in education. Following graduation he spent two years in the Peace Corps in Brazil. Upon return he joined the staff of the Armed Services YMCA in Long Beach serving enlisted Navy personnel at the Long Beach Naval Base. That begin a YMCA career that spanned 20 years with stints at the Gardena Family YMCA in Los Angeles and the Eugene Family YMCA in Eugene. In 1989 he left the YMCA and begin a fundraising career initially working for a fundraising consulting firm and then starting his own firm (Shaw Snow & Associates, Inc.) with his wife Sharon. They served non-profits in Oregon, Washington and Idaho for more than twenty years.

Bruce was destined to be a Rotarian because his father was an active member of the Rotary Club of Portland involving him in many of the club’s activities. He begin his Rotary career in 1971 as a member of the Rotary Club of Gardena. In 1976 he moved to Eugene and joined the Rotary Club of Eugene Southtowne. He has served Rotary as club president in 1999-2000, Assistant Governor in District 5110 for three years, Annual Giving Chair for District 5110 for three years and in one of those years the District annual giving reached $1 million. He was recognized as the “Rotarian of the Year” by District 5110.
He is still involved at the District level as the Major Gifts Director and is responsible for the Million Dollar Dinner that will be held on March 11, 2017 to recognize the 100th Birthday of The Rotary Foundation.
