At the June 25th meeting and Passing of the Gavel ceremony, Lonny presented a number of awards for service during his year. Below is a summary of his remarks and the awards presented.
I want to thank everyone for the honor and privilege it has been to serve as your president the past year. It’s truly been a pleasure and one that isn’t to be feared but embraced if you ever get the chance. If you get the chance to serve on the board or as an officer, please consider it.
I want to thank Ted Stevens for having the faith in me that I could do it. Thank you Ted.
We have an alive and vibrant club that does a lot of good in making this world a better place for what we do. And, we manage to have a little fun in the process. Rotary is all about service, and I’m convinced that the more you give, the more you receive. You receive in the satisfaction of doing something good for the world and in meeting some wonderful people in the process. I want to award some of those people today.
Awards:
Service Above Self Awards: These are awards for people who have gone above and beyond and, in some cases, do it behind the scenes.
- Christie McDonald — SpinOff and W&S Festival brochure and signage.
- Glen Brigham — Membership and new member orientation.
- John Pfanner — Set-up every week.
- Kate Compton — work with exchange students.
- Bruce Shaw — For his work on the TRF and agreeing to be PE.
- Pat Harding — W&S Silent Auction
Rotarians of the Year: Four years ago, we got two new members who have since done more for our club than anyone. Through their work in virtually everything Southtowne is involved with, they have made a tremendous contribution and a difference in our club — Food for Lane County, PILAS, W&S Festival, World Service, Meals on Wheels, taking over the food boxes, Habitat for Humanity, Serving as Club Secretary, opening their home for any number of meetings, and agreeing to serve as co-chairperson with Susie Hanner on the W&S Festival. They don’t know what ‘no’ means when asked to serve. Rotarians of the year, Nancy and Walt Meyer.
